If we tread the path of goodness shown by Him,
And sing His praise and adore Him,
He, the Lord of all ten directions ,
Will protect and impel us in the right direction.

Vannakkam...
Thirumurai is a collection of 12 holy scriptures written by 27 devotees of Lord Shivan in Tamil. It is a highly regarded by all shaivites. However, the teachings of the Thirumurai , like Veda, is both universal and eternal.
The first letter in the first Thirumurai is "Tho" ( in Tamil it is "O" + " Th"). The last word in the 12th thirumurai is "ulagelaam" ( world). Thus, the last letter is "M". By joining the first letter and last letter, "O" and "M", we get " OM". So, Thirumurai is a description of OM, the pranavam itself. Morever, even in the Veda, the first letter is " Tho".
Thirumurai is for masses to elites, simple devotees to great yogis, married people and as well as for ascetics. All , should benefit from the teachings of Thirumurai.
The Thevaram( 1st to 7th books)( literally means God's garland) of Appar, Sundarar and Sambandar sing praises of God, in flawless poetical structure, and countless imageries. These songs are like mantras that can shower great blessings such as good married life, and good health to those who read it. The temples mentioned in Thevaram yield great miracles till now. The honey dipped words of thiruvAchakam( first half of the 8th book), which is nothing but pure devotion and surrender, would melt any heart. Thirukovai ( the second half of the 8th book), is a wonderful love poem about God. Thirumandhiram( 10th book) is a marvelous text on the sophisticated concepts of yoga science. The 9th and 11th book, written by various shaivites, emit radiance of devotion. The 12th book, ( Periya Puranam) is a masterpiece , that illustrates the lives of great shaivites and the greatness of Lord Shivan.
The first nine works of Thirumurai are stotram( praises). The tenth Thirumurai namely Thirumandhiram, is shastram( guideline). The eleventh Thirumurai, comprising of numerous work of various Lord Shivan devotees, is prabhantam( assorted). The twelveth Thirumurai is puranam( history).
Let these great beacons shower wisdom in our minds !
